18:00–19:00 | Tango Workshop – Calesita: Technique, Elegance & Musicality
The Calesita, also known as the “merry-go-round,” is an elegant tango figure in which the leader walks around the follower while she gracefully pivots on one leg.
There are countless ways to dance a Calesita, from large, spectacular movements to small, refined variations that are perfect for a crowded milonga. We’ll explore different entries and exits, variations within the figure itself, and how to adapt the movement to the music and the space around you. As the leader moves rhythmically around the follower, she has the opportunity to add beautiful ornaments. But does she always have to pivot on one leg, or can she alternate with other movements? How can these choices be led, and when can the follower take the initiative herself?
A challenging and inspiring workshop for both leaders and followers, exploring the technical, elegant, creative, and musical possibilities of this fascinating tango figure!
